Did you know that in 1937 when Queen Elizabeth the II was 11 years old, she became a Girl Guide ?
She took her promise as most of us have, to do her best, serve others and live according to her beliefs.
Queen Elizabeth the II was part of the 1st Buckingham Palace Troup made up of girls and boys from the royal family and from families who worked at the Palace. They camped in the palace gardens and even had their very own club house. She earned badges in swimming; first aid, interpreting and horse riding.
When she became Queen in 1953 she became also patron of the Girl Guides and remained so until her death, meeting and supporting Guides and Scouts from all over the world. It is even rumoured that she kept her scout knife in her handbag!!!
So as the world says goodbye to a Queen, may we invite you to take time to reflect on our own personal ties with this amazing lady as we say goodbye to our fellow Girl Guide who lived her whole life according to her promise to do her best and serve others… she is a shining example of the Scouting spirit and we join the world in mourning the loss of a truly inspirationnal Guide.
